Rain Veil – Black and White Limited Fine Art Photography Print (edition 100)

Rain Veil is one of my many fond memories I have of the Yukon.

I lived in Canada’s Yukon for 22 years. The magic and over most parts of the Territory unspoiled wilderness inspired me to become a full-time nature photographer in 1995. A move I never regretted. For many years I paddled most of its wild rivers in a canoe or hiked in the Kluane Mountains in front of my log home. It is hard to express my feelings for this unusual place in words.

Yukon, formerly Yukon Territory, territory of northwestern Canada, an area of rugged mountains and high plateaus. It is bounded by the Northwest Territories to the east, by British Columbia to the south, and by the U.S. state of Alaska to the west, and it extends northward above the Arctic Circle to the Beaufort Sea. The capital is Whitehorse.

The mineral wealth of Yukon has been known since the famous Klondike gold rush of the later 1890s, but the combination of an Arctic climate and remoteness from markets has limited the economic exploitation of such resources and the development of modern settlement. Instead, the territory remains among the few frontiers on the North American continent, a sparsely populated and largely unspoiled wilderness.

I took this image in fall while on a photography shoot in the northern Yukon. The previous night had been cold and in the morning the boreal forest was covered in thick fog. Until today Rain Veil still is one my favorite pieces of photography art.

The Rain Veil fine art black and white photography print has a limited edition of only 100. Most other fine art photographers have a much higher limited edition number. The lower the number the higher is the value of the print. Please also browse through my other limited editions Special Limited Fine Art Prints (edition of ONLY 25) and Exclusive Art Collector Prints (edition of ONLY 5)

In 2011 when Lake Eyre in South Australia was flooded after 30 years being dry I took off with my powered paraglider at the southern shore. This was my very first time using this kind of flying machine to take aerial photographs. I would be lying if I said I had not been very scared. I always had been afraid of height. When I reached about 1000m (3300 ft) above ground I circled for 1 hour until sunset and was rewarded with one of the most spectacular colorful reflections I have ever experienced. To top off the beauty of the scene nature rewarded me with a totally flat lake for a perfect reflection. Although I was very excited during the entire flight, I was even happier when I finally was safely back on the ground.

Meanwhile after 8 years of using a powered paraglider for my aerial photography I have overcome my great fear of heights and have flown with this machine on 3 continents. We only gain if we push beyond our comfort zone.

I was driving along the coastal road when the sun suddenly broke through the dark storm clouds. I barely had time to get my camera and tripod out to capture this dramatic scene before the sun disappeared again. Most unique situations in nature only last for a very short time.

The Salar de Uyuni is the world’s largest salt pan with the size of Belgium. My wife and I spent several days here in awe of this seemingly endless white landscape. The Salar de Uyuni with its few scattered islands is so unique and otherworldly beautiful that it should be protected as a national park or reserve. Unfortunately below the salt crust lies the world’s largest deposit of lithium that is used in rechargeable car batteries. One mine has already started to operate. It is only a question of time until another of the world’s natural wonders will be totally destroyed.

I took this image on a partly cloudy morning at the exact moment when the sun had just risen above the horizon and only illuminated the raised ridges of the hexagons. It looks like a vast net is spread out over the salt pan.

Mystical Beginning is a present of nature after a freezing night when I awake to this moody scene at a small remote lake in northern Patagonia.

My wife and I had crossed the border from Chile into Argentina the evening before. We decided to set up camp near a small lake not to far from the border. When we woke up in the morning the lake was covered in thick fog. As the rising sun increased its power, the fog slowly moved away and opened up a view onto part of the lake.

The Mystical Beginning black and white fine art print has a limited edition of only 100. Most other fine art photographers have a much higher limited edition number.
