The Great Gathering remembers me of one of the best adventure trips. I took this image from a high lookout in Chad’s Ennedi.
The Ennedi Plateau has a very high camel population. Most of the camels are being bred to be exported to neighboring countries like Niger, Libya or Sudan. Camels can live without water for a very long time. Their stomach can hold up to 200 liters of water. This is one of the two big oasis in Ennedi where different herds of camels come to drink every day during the dry season. For me looking down into this beautiful deep canyon onto dozens of camels is one of the most memorable sights and experiences during my 25 years being a nature photographer.
