Description
Polar bears are highly threatened due to global warming. They need ice to hunt seals, their main diet. Over the past decade the winters have become warmer in the Arctic and the ice cover shorter. In Svalbard polar bears are not too intimidated by the proximity of ships or zodiacs because they are protected from hunting. We managed to follow this adult male from a safe distance in a zodiac while it was walking along the frozen shore towards another fjord that still had a solid ice cover. Perfect seal hunting conditions for the bear!
