Description
Including space around my main subject serves two purposes. First our eyes immediately focus on the main subject, in this case the polar bear. Second it conveys a sense of vastness and loneliness. Polar bears are solitary animals, except for mothers with cubs. Most of the year they roam across endless expanses of snow and ice. Besides deserts the polar regions are the most desolate, inhospitable environments on earth.
Polar bears are highly threatened due to global warming. They need the ice to hunt seals, their main diet. Over the past decade the winters have become warmer in the Arctic and the ice cover shorter. The polar bears are considered vulnerable and the population is decreasing.
